Photography; How I got started
Hard to remember when I actually became enamored with image. I
guess It has been forever. Maybe it is that left brain right brain
thing. Although, I am ambidextrous which might blow a hole in the
theory. I rather look at a 300 page book of pictures than read a
novel. I find my self looking at a single picture sometimes for 5
minutes. Not sure how many books I have actually read from "Cover
to Cover". I am more of a "just the fact's" reader. I am clearly a
visual person and get lost in the creation of image.
So how did I get started? I don't know. It was a series of paths
but one thing is consistent, I always loved taking pictures. The
anticipation to get the film developed was like waiting for
Christmas Day to open Presents. One thing is for sure, technology
has allowed me to go places in making images that were only
thoughts in my head. To date myself, I remember having to manually
work a slide projector while remembering the timing of 3 songs
playing on a boom box for a slide show presentation( still remember
the bands, Oingo Boingo, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode). That
probably took me 20 hours to rehearse and a lifetime of trying to
forget. Technology is a beautiful thing, can do the same thing in
15 minutes. I remember dropping $700 on my first 1.8 megapixel
camera.
People along the way have told me I missed my calling (far cry from
my other professional past). Due to another series of events life
dealt, i was able to get more serious about photography and began
to really consider doing this full time.
Well the rest is history and I decided to walk that narrow path. I
consider myself fortunate to have this opportunity. I take what I
do seriously and go way out of my way to make every job unique and
special. When it becomes about the money, I will find something
else (and that is no joke). For me, it has to be a passion. Some
people express and write very well with words, for me, it is image.
